You’ve sipped and savored this special wine before. We’ve worked hard to secure fruit from an incredible vineyard, and now, we’re excited to finally be able to include this extremely limited wine as part of the Fall Friends Release.

Our Friends Members know and love our core duo of mountain-grown Cabernet Sauvignons—Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain. This fall, we’re excited to share that we’re officially adding a third to the mix: Oakville Ranch. With only 100 cases produced, the Oakville Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon will be available exclusively to our Friends Members in very limited quantities this fall.

Some of you may recall its limited 2019 release after the 2020 fires. The response was resounding. Before the wine hits your doorstep, we wanted to share the story behind this exceptional vineyard and what makes it a worthy companion to our mountain-grown Cabernets.

Tim’s Notes on Oakville Ranch

haber wine bottle “Some years ago, we began to explore sourcing Cabernet Sauvignon from beyond Howell and Diamond Mountains. For more than a decade we had focused on hillside Cabernet Sauvignon, so I knew we needed not just an exceptional vineyard, but one with an identity unique from our existing sites.

I’ve worked for decades with renowned grower Phil Coturri, who farms vineyards in both Napa and Sonoma. Known for coaxing exquisite fruit from the vines he tends, Phil also farmed one of our sources of Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon.

Phil introduced me to Oakville Ranch Vineyard, 68 acres of vines which sprawl on a plateau ridgeline on the eastern slopes of the Oakville appellation, at between 750 and 900 feet in elevation. The ridge above both the east and north is Pritchard Hill, and just south is Atlas Peak. In every direction, storied landmark vineyards grace the hillsides. It is exceptional terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon.

The soil is shallow, well-draining, and is made of decomposed volcanic materials, a mix of red clays, silt, and gravel. Small, low yielding vines have been meticulously farmed organically for decades. The Oakville Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is perfumed, expressive and retains a bright natural acidity. We are very excited to finally be able to add this extremely limited wine to our Friends Members for the fall release.”
